Here we have Jack Davis's, Seattle Seahawks, it seems to have been made with ink and marker, the artwork is all about speed. The approach to colour and line suggests the piece was made with a quick and fluid hand. I'm thinking about the cloud of dust and dirt coming off the players feet. The way Davis renders it with small, quick strokes of gray and blue ink makes me think about the idea of movement and the distortion of space. It's like he's trying to capture not just the image of a football player but the feeling of their speed. This relates to the larger piece through the idea of form and distortion. Davis’ Seahawks could be placed along side Philip Guston, both love to play with cartoonish forms to deliver a message that is both humorous and thoughtful. Davis’s work is all about visual exchange, not about creating a fixed meaning.
