Aanbidding door de herders 1564

"Aanbidding door de herders" is a black and white etching by Philips Galle from 1564. It depicts the adoration of the shepherds, a scene from the nativity of Jesus. The image is set in a stable-like structure, with a central figure of Mary holding the baby Jesus, surrounded by adoring shepherds. The scene is full of detail and intricate lines, typical of the Northern Renaissance. The text in the bottom of the image reads "JOTIVS EN DOMINUS NATURE NASCITUR INEANS, INDVITER ON HOMINEM DEVS & DEO." This work is now housed in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
