This anonymous, late 18th-century child’s chair is a simple yet charming example of American vernacular furniture. Made of wood with a woven rush seat and painted black, the chair features turned spindles and a slightly curved back. The small size and sturdy construction suggest its use in a child’s room, perhaps as part of a set. This piece is now in the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
