Sky with Flat White Cloud 1962

Georgia O'Keeffe made this painting, ‘Sky with Flat White Cloud’ with oil on canvas. It’s a big painting, about 60 x 80 inches, and it makes me think about the sky. I like to imagine her in the studio, mixing up her blues and greens and whites, thinking about those clouds and how they float. What was it like for her to decide exactly where to put that dividing line between the green and the white? She’s really thinking about the horizon, isn't she? About how it feels to stare off into space. There's something so simple and direct about it, yet it's also really evocative, you know? I think O’Keeffe’s work still speaks to us now. We're all in this ongoing conversation, trying to make sense of the world and ourselves through color, form, and gesture. Each painting inspires another.
