Speedy Graphito made this mural at Parc des Bruyères in France, using house paint, spray paint, whatever was on hand. Can you imagine him building up these layers? Starting perhaps with those graphic black outlines, like a coloring book, then filling them in with big, bold, cartoon colors? I love that thick, matte, red passage on the right, how it anchors the whole thing. He was probably thinking about comics, maybe some Pop Art, and definitely his contemporaries working in graffiti and street art, all pushing and pulling at each other. That meandering blue line is so great! It sort of slithers down the composition, holding everything together. I always think about the physical act of painting. The artist is trying to reach something, trying to find it in the paint itself. So, in a way, all painters are connected, having a conversation through time. Each one learns from and inspires the other!
