This plate was made by Sadler and Green in England between 1761 and 1777. It pictures George Washington on horseback. The image reproduces an engraving of the American hero. It has a clear political agenda, making Washington look like a military hero. It is addressed to "His Excellency, Washington." The plate was created during a period when there was strong political sympathy for the American cause in England, prior to outright war.
