These sculptures, called Le grand oiseaux, are by Agustin Cardenas. There's this fascinating dance between the abstract and the recognizable. Cardenas coaxes these glossy forms out of the hard material, creating a sort of rhythmic push and pull. The surface is reflective like polished obsidian, and has this uncanny way of drawing you in. Looking at these shapes, I keep thinking about how, even in solid form, an artist can make something feel so alive, almost breathing. There’s a spot right in the middle, a subtle indent that leads the eye upward, like a hidden path, so even though it’s static, it feels like it's growing or reaching. These sculptures remind me of some of Henry Moore’s biomorphic figures but with an extra layer of surrealism. Art is an ongoing conversation, always reaching and questioning.
