Perle Fine made this untitled work using watercolor, ink, and crayon, and what strikes me is the dance between control and chance. There are these delicate washes, see how they bleed and mingle, contrasting with sharp, decisive lines. Then crayon, adding this almost childlike, raw quality to the composition. The colours are like faded memories. Look at that playful red dot, it’s almost cartoonish. Fine is creating a conversation through these marks, a visual language where precision meets spontaneity. She reminds me a bit of Paul Klee. Both share this interest in the poetics of simple forms and lines, creating worlds that feel both abstract and strangely familiar. This piece isn’t about answers, it’s about the joy of asking questions with colour and line.
