Paul Klee made Villa R with oil paint on cardboard. It's a playful, dreamlike scene where everything feels a little off-kilter, like a memory reshaped by imagination. The surface has this cool, crackled texture, almost like aged plaster. You can tell Klee really worked the paint, maybe scraping it back in places to reveal layers underneath. The colors are muted, earthy, but with unexpected pops of red and blue. The way he builds up the villa from geometric shapes reminds me of building blocks, but also something more mysterious. I am especially drawn to the letter "R" that dominates the composition. It anchors the image while also adding to its surreal quality, blurring the line between representation and abstraction. I like to think of Klee as an artist very close in spirit to Joan Miró, who was on his own quest to discover the poetic potential of simple forms. They both remind us that art can be a playground for the mind.
