About this artwork
"Música Natural" by Marina Pallares looks like it was made yesterday using, well, everything. The paint is layered to build texture, but it's not about hiding the process. It's like she’s saying, “Here are the steps; now let’s make a painting.” I am mesmerized by the way the night sky is rendered. At first glance, it seems like an abstract pattern, but upon closer inspection, I noticed small, almost invisible strokes of various hues. This gives depth and richness to the composition. It's like she mixed a bit of the cosmos right in there with her colours. It’s a very sensual painting, like a textile, and I think of Klimt, who liked a pattern. Pallares reminds us that art is a conversation across time, and nothing is ever really finished, just taken up by another artist, another generation, and made new again. Like music, there are many interpretations.
