Editor: Here we have Hanns Dustmann's "Competition Entry for 'Growing House'," created for the "Sun, Air, and House for All" exhibition in 1932. The sketch presents two isometric views. What strikes me is how simple and sparse the design is, especially considering the lofty exhibition title. What do you make of it? Curator: Sparse indeed! It reminds me of a child's drawing, all lines and angles, yet it speaks volumes about the era's utopian ideals. Sun, air, and space for everyone! I wonder, did Dustmann envision these houses actually expanding, like a plant reaching for the light? Or was it more about adaptable design? Editor: Expandable, like a modernist lego set, perhaps? It certainly captures the spirit of innovation. I see a basic shape and the opportunity for the resident to grow the space as needed. Curator: Precisely! It seems Dustmann was thinking about housing as more than just shelter, but as a dynamic, evolving part of life. It's quite radical, actually, when you consider the context of the Great Depression. Food for thought, isn't it?
