Dragan Ilić Di Vogo made "Izolda," sometime around 2020, with oil on canvas, conjuring a world both familiar and utterly strange. The real magic here lies in how Di Vogo layers his paint, transparent in some areas, almost jewel-like in others. There's a sense of building, adding, subtracting – a real process on display. The impasto creates a terrain you just want to run your fingers over. Take a look at the crown of flowers and abstract forms above the girl's head. It’s like a whole world, a swirling galaxy of color and texture, a total explosion of controlled chaos, am I right? The drips and splatters, the subtle blending of colors, it all speaks to a playful process. It reminds me of work by Lisa Yuskavage, but with a totally different sensibility. Art is just this ongoing conversation. Gotta love it.
