Editor: This intriguing piece by Esq Tom Phillips, seemingly without a title and date, is held at the Tate. It's a page from "A Human Document," adorned with text amidst a colorful forest scene. What strikes me is how dreamlike and fragmented it feels. What do you see in this work? Curator: Ah, yes! It whispers to me of altered states, like a half-remembered dream. The text snippets float like thoughts, colliding and diverging amidst the painted woodland. It’s as if Phillips is inviting us to piece together a narrative from the ether. Does it feel like a found poem to you? Editor: I hadn't considered that, but yes! Like a poem born from cutting up an existing text and rearranging the pieces. Curator: Exactly! A bit of collage, a bit of poetry, and a whole lot of imagination. It’s a potent brew! Editor: I see that now! Thanks, that really opened it up for me.
