This elaborately carved cabinet, “Mirrored cabinet,” was created by Dirk Froger in 1764. It features a Rococo style design with mirrored doors that contain Chinoiserie painted scenes with birds and foliage. The cabinet also features three drawers with ornate pulls. The intricate detail and use of mirrored surfaces in this cabinet demonstrate the decorative and functional qualities of 18th-century Dutch craftsmanship.
Comments
The cabinetmaker wanted to give this large, heavy cabinet a Rococo shape, but did not succeed in avoiding straight angles and mouldings. Because the silver is marked with a ‘year letter’, this piece of furniture can be dated rather precisely.
