Carmen Delaco has made this artwork with oil paint and what seems to be an intuitive understanding of colour and movement. There’s something primal about the energy in this painting, like we're witnessing a clash or a dance between these two creatures. I love how the paint is laid down, thick and juicy in places, almost like frosting. You can see the marks of the brush, the way the colors blend and bleed into each other. The red horse seems to be made of fire, while the blue one is cooler, more ethereal. Look at the way the blue horse’s mane seems to ripple and flow, each brushstroke capturing the movement of air. It reminds me a little of Franz Marc’s paintings of animals, where he used color to express their inner emotions and spirits. But Delaco brings her own unique voice to the conversation, a sense of raw, untamed energy that’s both exciting and a little bit dangerous. It’s a reminder that art is a living, breathing thing, always changing and evolving.
