Henri Verstijnen made this small drawing of two fighting rams with ink on paper. The energy of the piece is amazing, right? You can see Verstijnen working out the relationships between the forms with a scratchy, almost frenetic energy. Look at the way he builds up the wool on those rams. It’s all these little flicks and jabs of ink, and together they create this shaggy texture. The drawing feels so immediate, like a thought caught on paper. You can almost feel the impact as their heads collide, these tiny marks creating a sense of movement and power. The raw, unfinished quality reminds me of some of Philip Guston’s drawings, that same feeling of searching and finding, line by line. It’s a reminder that art isn’t about perfection, it’s about the process, the exploration, the sheer joy of making something out of nothing.
