This bound volume, Survey Graphic Vol. XXV, was made in 1936 by Survey Associates Inc. The book cover has this warm, earthy brown tone. It feels almost like a Rothko, but instead of layers of paint, it's the texture of the fabric that creates depth. You can see the weave if you get up close, these tiny imperfections that give it character. There is this sense of something hidden. It makes you want to reach out and touch it. The simple color and understated design remind me of Agnes Martin's grids, that meditative, minimalist thing. It's a whole world in a single color. It is like art is this ongoing conversation. It keeps unfolding in unexpected ways. There's no right or wrong way to see it, just different ways of experiencing it.
