Editor: This untitled work by Eduardo Paolozzi presents a series of black and white images in a grid. The hands at the top of the picture plane and the other images strike me as a juxtaposition of the mundane and the extraordinary. What connections do you see within these combined images? Curator: It's fascinating to consider Paolozzi's interest in mass media and consumer culture through the lens of production. The grid format mirrors the mass production prevalent at the time. Do you think he is elevating or critiquing the everyday processes shown here, like preparing food? Editor: I think he's drawing attention to them, but it's hard to say if it's positive or negative. I hadn't considered the grid as a commentary on production itself. Curator: Precisely. By using the processes of collage and screen printing Paolozzi implicates himself as another agent of consumption. He invites us to consider the labor involved and our relationship to these images.
