Editor: This is Louis Delsarte's "Unity", made with mylar, and it strikes me as a very fragmented piece. What do you see in it? Curator: I see a powerful commentary on the fragmentation of Black identity. The disembodied figures, rendered in stark monochrome, speak to the historical and ongoing disruptions caused by slavery, racism, and cultural erasure. How does the "Unity" implied by the title complicate this reading, do you think? Editor: Maybe it's about piecing back together what was broken? Curator: Precisely. Delsarte seems to be urging us to consider how, even in the face of such fragmentation, there is a possibility, and indeed a necessity, for wholeness and solidarity. It's a call for intersectional unity. Editor: That makes me see it in a completely new way. Thanks!
