S. Brodsky made this lovely drawing of a glass, and I’m guessing it was made with colored pencils, as it's got this delicate feel. It's kind of like watching someone slowly build something, line by line. I like how the marks aren’t trying to hide. You can see each stroke, especially around the base, where the color pools and swirls. It’s this combination of control and letting go that gets me. Brodsky really lets the pencil do its thing. It's a little wobbly, and that's great because it feels so human. This reminds me of some of Morandi's still lifes – these simple, everyday objects, but seen with so much care and attention. It's a reminder that art doesn't always have to shout. Sometimes, it can just whisper. And in that quietness, there's a whole world of feeling.
