Patricq Kroon made this drawing, China en Japan, with pen and ink, and it's pretty wild. I can imagine him in his studio, the pen scratching away at the paper, line after line. The overall impression is a kind of tension. The seated figure with his pipe seems almost oblivious, while the figure with the knife appears full of rage. Look at the cross-hatching on the trousers and how the pen has captured a sense of the figure's bulging eyes. I love how those lines, which build tone, add volume and weight to the scene. You know, drawing feels like a conversation, artists are always in dialogue, riffing off each other, trying out new moves. This makes me think about how much energy there is in simply putting pen to paper, making marks, and seeing what emerges!
