Giacomo Antonio Mannini rendered this depiction of a baroque church interior using pen and brush, showcasing his mastery of architectural detail. Dominating the composition, the fluted columns, Corinthian capitals, and ornate entablatures symbolize the power and grandeur of the Church, reminiscent of classical antiquity. The archway, a motif tracing back to Roman triumphal arches, signifies a transition, a gateway to spiritual enlightenment. This use of classical elements, however, is not new: we see it echoing through the Renaissance and adapted into new forms in the Baroque period.
