Etienne Delaune rendered this ‘Leda’ in ink, capturing a mythological scene laden with potent symbols. The central motif is Leda and the Swan, a visual shorthand for the primal forces of desire and transformation. Zeus, in the guise of a swan, seduces Leda, an act charged with both beauty and violence. We see this very image echoed throughout art history, from ancient pottery to Renaissance paintings, each telling a new version. The swan, a symbol of grace, here becomes an instrument of divine will, a motif we can trace back to ancient mythologies. Notice the dogs, symbols of fidelity, juxtaposed with the swan. These conflicting symbols suggest a subconscious struggle between loyalty and primal instinct. This image resonates with a complex interplay of human desire and divine intervention, continuously resurfacing, evolving, and taking on new meanings.
