Florence Truelson made this quilt block titled "Constancy." We can imagine the act of stitching itself: how each stitch shifts and emerges through intuition? I sympathize with Florence. What might it have been like to work on this? What might she have been thinking when she made it? The quilting is dense but the stitches create movement, a kind of ebb and flow, within a square. See how the texture of the fabric shapes our experience and contributes to the emotional resonances of the work. The bright yellow of the bird creates a beautiful contrast with the bluebells. Each tiny gesture communicates feeling, intention, and meaning. Truelson and other quiltmakers are in an ongoing conversation, an exchange of ideas across time. I think the way they are able to take pieces of the world and build their own is really inspiring. The embodied expression embraces ambiguity and uncertainty, allowing for multiple interpretations.
