Lee Quinones created this wall art in 1990, seemingly on the side of a building. The way he layers words, images, and bursts of color, makes me think about the energy of the city. You know, that feeling of constant motion and connection. The text, "Graffiti," looms large with its red and grey outline, almost pulsating with the same energy as the orange swirls that surround it. I imagine Quinones, with his spray can, working quickly, making each line count, almost like dancing. Look at the cartoon figure riding some sort of spacecraft on the lower-left, surfing the cosmos. It’s as if he is saying, "Here I go again," embracing the unknown. I love the feeling of spontaneity in this piece. Artists are always in conversation, aren't they? Each gesture is a response, a continuation of art history that's been unfolding for centuries. I think Quinones invites us to embrace the flow, to find our rhythm in the chaos.
