Eyvind Earle conjured "Moon Bath" with a keen eye for color and form. The way the blues blend and shift is so calming, like watching a serene dream unfold. I am really drawn to the stark contrast between the figure and the landscape, and the way Earle emphasizes the flatness of the picture plane, which he does so well. I like how, in a way, the dark hair looks solid, a heavy presence that mirrors the lighter curve of the body, and how both contrast with the blues that surround them. Earle’s art often leans into a kind of simplified grandeur, and this piece feels like a moment of quiet contemplation amidst a vast, imaginative world. It reminds me a bit of the graphic boldness you see in some Japanese prints, but with its own unique, almost surreal twist. You could look at this piece for hours and still find something new each time, which, for me, is a sign of art that really gets under your skin.
