Biography
Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) was a celebrated Japanese artist best known for his dramatic and often violent woodblock prints. These works, commonly referred to as *ukiyo-e*, explored themes of history, mythology, and the Kabuki theatre. His use of bold lines, intense colors, and dynamic compositions created a powerful and memorable visual language that reflected the turbulent times of late Edo Japan. Yoshitoshi's prints are renowned for their graphic detail, which was both captivating and unsettling, making him a prominent figure in the history of Japanese art.
