Biography
Sebastiano Torrigiani was an Italian sculptor who worked primarily in bronze. He was born in Bologna, but died in Rome in 1596. Torrigiani is known for his lifelike and detailed bronze sculptures, often depicting religious figures, which exhibit a remarkable attention to anatomical detail. The bust in the image depicts a Pope, and the elaborate detail of the papal attire as well as the expression on the figure’s face suggests a realistic depiction of a prominent individual.
