Biography
Paula Modersohn-Becker (1876-1907) was a German painter known for her portraits and self-portraits, often focusing on themes of motherhood and individuality. Her work, characterized by simplified forms and bold colors, was influenced by the art of Cézanne and Gauguin, which she encountered during her time in Paris. A pioneer of modernism, Modersohn-Becker's short career was tragically cut short by her early death at the age of 31.
