Biography
Jan van Hoepen (1856-1922) was a Dutch photographer who documented life in South Africa during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born in Veere, Netherlands, van Hoepen became well-known for his photographic documentation of the Second Boer War (1899-1902). His photographs, often taken in a documentary style, capture the landscapes, infrastructure, and people of the region, including images of the conflict and its aftermath, as well as architectural and civic buildings.
