Biography
Édouard Gautier-Dagoty (1745-1783) was a French artist known for his etchings and engravings. His work often depicted classical themes and scenes, such as the one pictured here. This engraving, titled "Temple d'Isia à Compen tel qu'il doit être en l'Année 70, lorsqu'il a été détruit par l'éruption du Vésuve," showcases a dramatic and detailed depiction of a temple bathed in moonlight. The use of light and shadow contributes to the somber mood, while the intricate details of the architecture and the figures within the scene provide a sense of grandeur.
