Biography
Christiaen van Vianen (1600–1667) was a Dutch silversmith known for his elaborate and grotesque ornamentation. Vianen's work often features fantastical creatures, human figures, and intricate floral motifs, adding a unique and striking touch to his designs. His pieces are often characterized by their highly detailed craftsmanship and use of contrasting textures, which are frequently found in his work, such as the "Ewer," and "Salver" pictured here. He is considered to be one of the most important silversmiths of the 17th century, and his work is highly sought after by collectors today.
