Biography
André Le Nôtre (1613-1700) was a French landscape architect and gardener, known for his formal, symmetrical designs of gardens. He revolutionized the landscape design of French gardens during the 17th Century. His most famous design is the gardens at Versailles, which are considered to be a masterpiece of French Baroque architecture. Le Nôtre's gardens are characterized by their axial planning, geometric shapes, and use of perspective. His designs often included fountains, statues, and parterres, which were elaborate flower beds. He was a master of creating a sense of order and grandeur in his gardens, which reflected the power and wealth of the French monarchy.
