This albumen print captures the Ruïne van de Chapelle Notre-Dame du Bon Secoursin in Pont Christ, Brittany. Delizy made it, but when? Unknown. It's all in shades of brown, like an old memory. I love the way the light filters through the trees, softening the edges of the ruin. It's easy to get hung up on the subject matter, the ruin itself, but I'm drawn to the way the artist has captured the texture of the leaves and the water. It feels like you could reach out and touch them. The textures! Look at the way the light dances on the water, creating these blurry, shimmering shapes. It makes me think of Gerhard Richter, how he’d blur a photo to create a painting. Delizy here is doing something similar, using the camera to create this sense of dreaminess and distance. It reminds me that art isn't just about capturing reality, it's about transforming it.
