Lakeshore Grove 1898

Stefan Luchian created Lakeshore Grove with sanguine crayon on paper. It's a landscape dominated by red hues, a striking visual choice that invites us to consider its meaning within the context of early 20th-century Romania. Luchian, working in a period of social and political transition, might have been using the landscape to explore themes of national identity and the relationship between people and their environment.
