Curator: Here we have a small, untitled piece by Ian Tyson. It features a square of white against a larger black square, and within the white, we see the letters "gro" and "ro," and some dots. Very minimal. Editor: Oh, it feels like a little secret, doesn't it? Like a code waiting to be cracked or a tiny map. Curator: Tyson's work often explores language and perception. His interest in concrete poetry and semiotics shines through. Editor: It makes you wonder what those words mean to him. "Grow," "ro"... Is it growth, or something more abstract, like a feeling, sprouting in darkness? Curator: Perhaps it reflects how meaning grows from the barest elements, from simple marks and letters. Editor: It's so small, yet it holds the possibility of a vast, inner world. I’m captured by its delicate simplicity.
