Julie Bell painted "Answer The Wind," in what we might call the post-modern era, where fantasy and reality have been collapsed. Here, the image is set against an apocalyptic background, but we see a majestic horse running with an eagle on its back. Think about this imagery in relation to other fantasy paintings. The horse and eagle motif may harken back to ancient mythologies, but with a modern twist. In ancient times, the horse symbolized nobility and power, while the eagle embodied freedom and vision. Together, they could represent a harmonious balance between strength and liberty, but what does that mean today? Is it purely escapist? To truly understand art, we need to use all of the research resources at our disposal, delving into the artist's background, the cultural context, and the artistic conventions of the time. Only then can we begin to unravel the complex layers of meaning that art holds.
