Curator: This is C. Bennette Moore's photographic work, simply titled "Untitled (New Orleans cemetery)." Editor: Wow, it’s eerie! Like walking through a city built for ghosts, especially with the inverted tones. Curator: Indeed. New Orleans cemeteries reflect unique cultural attitudes toward death, differing from the Anglo-American traditions, partly shaped by its colonial history and Catholic traditions. The above-ground tombs are also practical, given the city’s high water table. Editor: Makes me think of cycles, you know? Decay and renewal… the stones holding stories we can only imagine. Curator: Absolutely, these structures, with their rows of crypts, speak to communal memory and layered histories of race, class, and social structure. Editor: It's kind of beautiful and unsettling, all at once. Makes you ponder about time. Curator: The image invites us to contemplate these complex histories embedded in the landscape. Editor: Totally. It's a place I need to see one day, maybe bring a paintbrush.
