This 1777 etching by Augustin de Saint-Aubin depicts Victor Amadeus III, King of Sardinia, in profile. The king is shown in an oval frame, surrounded by an ornate border. Above the frame is an eagle perched on a laurel wreath. Below, two lions flank a shield bearing a crown. The use of line and shading, and the ornate details of the frame, are characteristic of the Rococo style. This engraving, which is now in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, provides a visual representation of the king and his royal power.
