Editor: Here we have E. Gyger’s photograph "From the Fiescherhorn, Bernese Oberland". The stark, monochrome tones give it a very timeless, almost mystical quality. What symbols or ideas jump out at you when you look at it? Curator: Mountains are loaded with cultural symbolism. They’re often seen as places of spiritual elevation, transformation, or even divine judgment. Notice how the photographer frames the peak, almost as a sacred monument. Does this perspective evoke feelings of reverence or perhaps isolation within you? Editor: I can see the reverence, definitely. It makes me consider the power of nature versus our human insignificance. Curator: Precisely. The mountain becomes a canvas onto which we project our fears, aspirations, and sense of place in the world. It’s fascinating how a landscape can embody so much of our inner landscape. Editor: Absolutely. I never thought about it that way before. Thanks!
