This postcard, addressed to Philip Zilcken by Jan van Oort, is covered in a cool palette of greens, greys, and blacks. It's a layered object, isn’t it? Not just a piece of paper, but a record of communication, of movement through space and time. I imagine Van Oort, pen in hand, carefully forming each letter. Maybe he paused, considering the right words, the right tone, the right weight of each stroke. I’m always interested in an artist's touch, and here you can really see it. It's in the way the ink pools in certain spots, the way the lines curve and connect. You can feel the artist's presence. This card reminds me that art isn't just about grand statements or profound revelations. Sometimes, it's about the small, everyday moments, the connections we make, and the traces we leave behind. It shows how every gesture, every mark, is a form of expression, even if it's just writing an address on a postcard. I'm sure Van Oort would agree, and I bet Zilcken was thrilled to receive it.
