Curator: Looking at this "Untitled" oil painting, possibly by Zdzislaw Beksinski, the first thing that strikes me is how grounded the fantastic feels. The earthy, muted palette anchors what otherwise could be pure whimsy. Editor: Grounded? For me, there is a definite otherworldliness, or perhaps an entry into an alternative reality, with those tower-like forms. The textured surfaces read as if the paint itself is an artifact of some lost civilization. What about the symbolism? Look closely at the visible layers of paint. I wonder what tools and materials Beksinski was using and experimenting with. Notice, especially, the stark textural differences –the matte tower contrasting against the luminous depth inside its aperture, the feathery rendering of the cloud formations. Curator: I see that interplay too. He has combined solidity with transience in an engaging push and pull. I am interested in the composition itself. What do you think it means to leave it untitled? Is that just another entry into the world of abstraction?
