"Matthew the Evangelist with Benefactor" (1516-1547) by Perino del Vaga is a High Renaissance painting depicting Matthew, a biblical figure, seated in a contemplative pose, writing in a book with an angel behind him. The scene is framed by a gold-leafed, intricately carved frame and features God the Father in the upper portion. At the bottom, a benefactor kneels in devotion before the evangelist. This piece, now at the SMK - Statens Museum for Kunst, showcases del Vaga's mastery of composition and the classical style.
