Patrick Pietropoli made 3 Têtes Au Bandeau Bleu, though it’s not dated, it feels very much of our time. The palette is moody, nearly monochromatic, but I love how the three faces emerge from the darkness. It's a painting about process, about building up layers. Looking closely, you see that Pietropoli thins his paint down, letting it drip. These aren’t clean lines, but a slow build. It’s like he’s letting the painting find its own way. Look at the face on the left - see the way the lines stream down from the shoulders? It gives the image a sense of both fragility and strength. This approach reminds me a little of late Picabia – he used thin paint and let it run down the canvas too. Both artists understand that painting isn't about perfection, but about embracing the unexpected. Ultimately, this piece invites us to question what we see, and to appreciate the beauty of imperfection.
