This architectural study was created by C. Kayser using pencil on paper. It depicts the facade of a building, its simple lines evoking structures of classical antiquity. Here, we see an echo of the ancient Greek temple, with its columns and geometric harmony, reborn through the Renaissance and Neoclassical movements. The verticality of the design recalls the aspirations of Gothic cathedrals, each pointing towards the divine. Yet, it is more than mere imitation. We see the motif of the arch, employed by Romans as symbols of power and transition, reimagined as portals that invite entry and connection. This act of recalling and reinterpreting is never linear, rather cyclical; motifs resurface, evolve, and take on new meanings, as this architectural sketch suggests.
