Douglas Campbell created this intriguing, neutral-toned jacket, rendered with incredible detail. I love how he’s captured the crispness of the fabric and the precise tailoring with what looks like pencil or ink. The vertical lines create a subtle rhythm across the surface, almost like a musical score, giving the jacket a sense of movement and life. It’s like he’s inviting us to imagine the boy who might have worn it, and the stories that jacket could tell. I can imagine Campbell, bent over his drawing board, carefully observing every fold and button. Maybe he was thinking about the fleeting nature of childhood, or the way clothing can embody memories. It reminds me a little of Fairfield Porter and his intimate depictions of everyday life. Artists are always in conversation with each other, aren't they? It’s this constant exchange that keeps art alive and kicking!
