Editor: Jim Lambie's "Weird Glow," a large-scale object from the Tate Collections, is made up of what seems to be shredded posters. It looks chaotic yet symmetrical. What do you make of it? Curator: Well, let’s consider Lambie's broader practice. He often uses readily available, mass-produced materials. What does using posters, a medium of public communication, to create this abstract form suggest about the role of imagery in society? Editor: Maybe how easily images are consumed and then discarded? Curator: Exactly. And consider the title, "Weird Glow." Does this piece critique the seductive power of advertising, even in its fragmented state? Editor: That’s a great point. I hadn’t thought of it that way. Curator: By giving discarded imagery a new form, Lambie forces us to reconsider its impact on our collective consciousness. Editor: It's interesting how something so visually noisy can be so thought-provoking.
