This regular pattern of a floral motif in orange on a light green background was made as decorative paper, by the artist known only as Monogrammist MS. The floral pattern laid over the light green is a real mood. It's so satisfying when you look at a patterned design like this, and you just know that some poor sap had to sit there and repeat it over and over again! The texture is super interesting because it looks like it might have been printed or stamped, but then there's also a kind of handmade quality, like maybe they were using a stencil or something. The orange has this slightly faded quality, and it kind of blends into the background. It makes me think of Hilma af Klint, who also used pattern, repetition and a pared-down colour palette to create a meditative experience. With patterned paper like this, the beauty really is in the imperfection.
