Curator: This intriguing untitled piece is by Terry Winters. Though undated, the work showcases Winters' signature exploration of organic forms and systems. Editor: My immediate impression is one of controlled chaos. The network of lines seems to simultaneously define and dissolve form. Curator: Indeed. Winters often draws on scientific imagery, from cellular structures to networks. He’s interested in how these structures reflect our understanding of the world around us. Editor: Look at how the primary colors—red, yellow, blue—punctuate the composition. They almost feel like coded signals within the larger framework. Curator: It’s been argued that the linear structures in Winters’ work allude to systems of power, technology, and control. Editor: I find it compelling how Winter's mark-making creates a sense of depth. It is like peering into another world, or perhaps, deeper within our own. Curator: An apt comparison. Winters often challenges us to consider the underlying frameworks that shape our perceptions. Editor: It certainly gives one a lot to think about. I’m seeing new details emerge constantly.
