Linnet Alward drew this wedding dress, probably with graphite, on paper. I can imagine her delicate strokes as she coaxes this dress out of the ether, giving form to the ephemeral idea of a wedding gown. She’s caught it at rest, still and floating. You can almost hear the scratching of the pencil on the paper, a quiet, repetitive, and calming sound that must have accompanied her work. It feels like this drawing emerges as much from touch as it does from sight. It's a quiet kind of drawing. The way the fabric hangs, those tiny flowers all over it, it makes you wonder, what was Alward thinking about when she made this? The texture, the surface, the very feel of the paper; they aren't just materials, but echoes of thought, feeling, and intention, resonating across time. And isn't that what all artists do? Reaching out to each other, across time, inspiring one another's visions.
